Personal statement

Richard Martin has been manager of the High Performance Computing facilities at the University of Strathclyde since 2009. Prior to this he was Research Computing Officer in the Department of Physics from 1997 where he managed a variety of Unix and Linux machines for Research and supported the Computational Nonlinear Optics Group and the ADAS project. During this time he also taught a number of undergraduate courses including Introductory Astronomy and Numerical Methods and FORTRAN.

He contributed to the successful £1.6M EPSRC "E-Infrastructure Capital Equipment Bid" which establish the regional ARCHIE-WeSt Supercomputer Centre for Academia and Industry in the WeSt of Scotland in 2012.

He obtained his PhD in 1997 from the University of Strathclyde, with his Thesis entitles "Control of Spatio-Temporal Dynamics in Nonlinear Optical Systems".
